Motivational Speakers You Need to Listen TO

This blog was created with the intention to help cultivate a mindset within my generation often referred to us millennials. I want to share with you the Motivational Speakers that have inspired me. As millennials, we are not always portrayed in the best light by the media. I have constantly heard phrases like, “kids these days just want success without the work”  “they don’t know what grinding is” “they don’t understand the privilege that they have” on and on it goes. Not all of this is true for all. I am millennial and I know I do not fit into any of those. Nor do my friends and majority of the people I interact with. One constant theme that runs in all of my blog posts is Perspective. The glass is either half full or half empty. So yes, there are some millennials that fit these saying but the majority of us are hardworking and do know what grinding means. As a generation, we are more determined to take a risk and build the business and careers that we want more than the generation before us.

In all of this, it may seem hard to stay motivated as you pursue your dreams and goals. On a whole, I know that I am a positive person and definitely a glass is half-full girl. But being positive and remaining positive is a choice I have to make and commit to daily. It is not easy but it is way more rewarding and drives me forward compared to when I’m being negative and a moaning Margaret. So how do I remain in this mindset? I do not believe in the term ‘ self-made’. I understand the concept but I believe we are all helped along the way by someone whether we choose to acknowledge them or not.  Sometimes those that help us do not even notice the impact they have had on our lives. One of the main ways I stay driven and motivated is by listening to Motivational videos/speeches on YouTube in the mornings (read my blog How to take charge of your morning) as I get ready for the day. In this post, I will be sharing with you my Top Five Motivation Speakers / Shows.

Les Brown (Mrs Mamie Brown baby boy)

Les brown

If you have been following this blog long enough then you will notice that I always quote him in my post. He is without a doubt, my favourite speaker. Les Brown is a great example of how one can change if we change the way we view ourselves. For most of his school life, he was labelled Educatable Mentally retarded. It was not until a substitute teacher gave him the chance to see himself as more than, that he began to break away from that Lable. “Someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality” he was told by the teacher. He went on to become a Disk Jockey, TV Host, Politician and a Motivational Speaker. Les Brown is all about teaching you how to pursue and live your dream. His tagline is “its possible”. He is relatable and will make you laugh. Not a bad way to start your morning.

“Someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality”

Eric Thomas (ET)

Motivational Speeches Shows you need to listen to

I first discovered Eric Thomas when I came across the speech that he did at a school. He gave an illustration of how you must want your dream as bad as you want to breathe. It was very deep and really hit home for me.  I had to ask myself, how badly do you want this and between you and me I had to be brutally honest with myself. Until then I had not realised I was pursuing certain dreams without detailed reasons why. He has a way of making you pay attention to the priorities and pushes you to take action. You can always see the passion in his eyes and hear it in his voice when he speaks. Like Les Brown, he also came from humble beginnings and was homeless for 2 years on the streets of Detriot. His change in life came about when he met a preacher when he was homeless and convince him to return to school. Even though it took him twelve years to complete his undergraduate he stuck with it. Lebron James credited him as part of his inspiration for winning the 2012 NBA Championship.

Tom Bilyeu

This guy is a little different from the first two. I would not necessarily put him in the category of motivational speakers, however, his show Impact Theory touches on something that I am really passionate about. Motivation is great but it only reaches great potential when it works alongside a growth mindset. Impact Theory focuses on mindset and does this by interviewing a variety of successful people to teach others to develop the mindset of success. In his show, I discovered David Goggins who inspired my weight loss journey and the five-second rule by Mel Robbins.

“the level of effort you tolerate from yourself will define the rest of your life”

TD Jakes

Motivational Speeches Shows you need to listen to

I have always known TD Jakes as a preacher but not as a motivational speaker. I discovered his motivational teaching / Speaking when he did an interview at Elevation church with Pastor Steven Furtick last year. There was so much wisdom shared in that interview I was constantly sharing it with my friends and family. What I like most about his speeches is the application of the word of God. For me it the perfect blend of motivation and spirituality. He focuses on the emotional aspect of the individual. It is what we have inside that pours out after all. It is important that we are in tune with our feelings and work on them.

Last but not lease is ted talks. This is a show that invites all kinds of people from all kinds of life to talk about their life experiences and the breakthroughs that they have had in their lives or career. No matter what you are into you will find someone on there. The app is a great way to filter your interest. You can also set length of time for the videos that you want to watch. There is a lot to be learned by these speakers that appear on Ted Talks. Take everything with a grain of salt and not try to become the speaker but only the best version of you.

Motivational Speeches Shows you need to listen to

Motivational Speakers are not here to create powerful mindset people, they give people the information required to develop the right mindset and push you to action in pursuit of your dreams and purpose.  So don’t try to become them, use their help to become the best version of yourself.
